Barbara June (Pyatt) Burns, age 75, of Coulterville, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at 7:25 p.m. in Randolph County Care Center, Sparta, IL.
Barbara was born on June 6, 1936 in Pinckneyville, IL, a daughter to George Dean and Roberta (Caldwell) Pyatt. On April 16, 1955, she married Sherwood C. Burns in Pinckneyville, IL and he survives. Barbara was a graduate of Pinckneyville High School, a member of the First United Methodist Church, Sparta, IL, Delta Theta Tau Sorority, Sparta, IL, and Illinois Women’s Polled Herford Association (Polletes). She was employed at the ASCS office Sparta, IL and Hookers Clothing Store, Sparta, IL, and Clothing Corner, Sparta, IL. Barbara was a mentor at Sparta Primary School, was actively involved in her church and dearly loved spending time with her family.
Barbara is survived by her husband; three children, Sherry (Bryant) Drury of San Antonio, TX, Kent (Barb) Burns of Coulterville, IL, and Kay (Michael) Hathaway of Steeleville, IL; and six grandchildren, Becky (Adam) Rabel of San Antonio, TX, Ben Drury (Brenna Cote) of Tuscon, AZ, Jamie Hathaway (fiance, Brian Schoenbeck) Walsh, IL, Julie Hathaway (fiance, Ed Draper) of Steeleville, IL, and Katie Burns and Kelby Burns, both of Coulterville, IL ; a sister, Mary Jo (Burnelle) Hein of Granite City, IL; numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, Sparta, IL on Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. with Reverend Scott Henley officiating. Interment will be in Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, IL.
Friends may call at First United Methodist Church, Sparta, IL on Tuesday, 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation or First United Methodist Youth Organization.
